What are the chances of a public school allowing a girl's sparring club?

I have no one to spar in my karate class, I guess I could spar the adults but they are no fun and take it too easy on me. I loved sparring when I was little and want to get back in to it. There are about 7 girls who do martial arts who would be interested. Then we need a teacher sponser We could get the wrestling coach or the female gym teacher. Strongest people in the school can break things up should they get ugly, and then we can referee matches. Do you think there is a chance or should I not even bother asking.

  1. Called it "Women's Self Defense Class"

And you could probably get away with it.

Calling it a "Girl's Sparring Club" or explain as you did above then chances are slim to none.

Even if you called it a "Girl's Martial Arts and Self Denfense Club"

There are a lot of ways you could word it and make it work.

Then just run it like a regular karate class going over techniques or sharing them, then have a lot of sparring. Easy way to get what you want.

But "Girl's Fight Club" probably wouldn't fly.

But if you make into something that sounds productive, it could definately work.

  2. good luck.....not to many females are into sparring

  3. I hate to break it to you but unfortunately becasue of the liablity i can't see ANY PUBLIC SCHOOL allowing any type of sparring club on premises.

they might allow point sparring, but that is not real sparring that is just a game of punch tag that is less realistic training wise than slap boxing.  Even still due to insurance and liability issues i HIGHLY doubt you will even find this game of overhyped tag at any public school.

(at least in slap boxing you have counter "punch"/slapping)

  4. I doubt it. First of all, the first time someone gets injured (unintentionally), the school system will freak!

Second, one school in my state had a "fight club", and the gym teacher got fired for supervising it, even though the students got permission to do it.

Talk to your instructor about your sparring situation. If he/she is a decent instructor, he/she will tell you to grow up. I was in the adult class when I was 12, and I can tell you right now that those adults were never easy on me. They were smarter than me, and they knew that I was overestimating my skill as a fighter. As an instructor, it's my job to pair my students with classmates that will challenge them, but also keep it safe.

If you really want a fight club, start it in your own backyard. Leave your school out of it.
