What are the chances of artificial intelligence(computers etc.,) taking over?

i really want to know. the discovery channel had a special on what could wip out humanity and that was number 2

  1. extremely high, we already have robots with turrets on them that are fighting the war for us (turrets are guns that can rotate). all someone has to do is modify (or "hack") the software the robot is running, so it has free will, then seconds later it will go on a killing spree and shoot anything that moves....


  2. Highly unlikely. I don't think humans would make a computer that would be able to take themselves over.

    A motion sensor gun, is not a computer.

  3. Not sure what the first spot was (but I guess: humans themselves), but no. I doubt that will happen (anytime soon). And if "robots" do get smart enough, we always have Asimov's laws:

       1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

       2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

       3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
