I was in an Amtrak crash literally in 1971. Trains are actually more dangerous than airplanes.

Trains and airplanes are pretty much neck and neck on safety.  However, when a train has a problem, there are comparatively few injuries and typically no deaths.  With airplanes, well, I don't need to tell you.
