  1. one to a-thousandwhat are the odds?of course there is a possability.though it doesn't occor often.

  2. Someone said this correctly.

You have not just higher chance of dying in a car crash than to die in airplane crash, but those chances are probably higher by an order of magnitude...

The thing that's scary about airplane crashes is that there's a large number of people who die at the same time and at no fault of their own. If you think about it. There's probably a few, maybe 2-3 serious commertial plane crashes in a world per year. Even if it's jumbo planes, let's say 400 people die in a crash.

Now if you look at the car accident statistics - over 100 people die in car accidents in the United States alone every day.

So if you co-measure the two numbers, there's a plane full of people that are perished in their cars every 4 days in the US alone. And probably a few planes full in the world. It's just because these deaths are not happening at the same time and at the same place - nobody makes a big deal about them (though they should).

Part of the reason to this is - commercial airplanes are flown by very professional pilots, who as a matter of rule don't drink and are going through hours and hours of training before they are allowed anywhere near an airplane full of passengers... And they can also be pretty sure that the pilots at the controls of other planes they are to meet in the sky have the same level of training.... But then every bozo can drive a car. Some even without a license or drunk to the point of seeing little green man.... And there's nobody to stop them. So even if you always drive safely, you're still at risk...

So don't worry that much about flying - worry more about getting to the airport!

    Have a great flight,

    LEM.

  3. Your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million. On the other hand, your chances of being killed in an automobile accident are 1 in 5000. Statistically, you are at far greater risk driving to the airport than getting on an airplane. However, the perception is that you have more control over your fate when you are in your car than as a passenger traveling on an airplane.

  4. most people get nervous during take off and especially duyring landing.  I travel ALL the time and i still get nervous on landing.  The sounds the landing gear makes and the angle you descend at. terrifying.

However, the odds of anything bad happening are VERY slim. so try not to worry and if you can't...booze helps ;) lol

  5. i dont know the statistic for sure, but i know youre more likely to die on the car ride over to the airport.

it sometimes freaks me out too, im flying on thursday!
