I shipped a book that i sold on the internet 2 weeks ago and I thought the buyer received it already until i get a returned shipping label and form in the mail saying the packaging came apart during the shipping transit and all was left was the shipping label. I filled out the form from the letter describing the lost item and sent it back. Its been a week and I haven't received any information yet. I'm just a little worried and I had to give the buyer a refund Does anyone know the chances of finding a lost item in the mail? Should i just wait it out a few more weeks or should i go back to usps and file the complaint form?

  1. The post office will forward your description to each office that is likely to have handled the item.  I would suspect a book with no address would be fairly easy to match to your description.  On the other hand, about once  a year, I hear stories of the post office finding something, even a full bag of mail, that was originally mailed DECADES before.  My guess is you will have to give the buyer a refund and HOPE the Post Office eventually locates the book.

  2. file a complaint. Ive had so many items lost in the mail. They dont care.
