What are the chances of geting caught piggybacking/"stealing" someone's wifi?

  1. Chances are very slim.  You can look and see how many computers are using your WIFI at a given time, and you can even get the MAC address of that computer, but there's no way to ID you.  You can't tell which house in the neighborhood the freeloader is coming from.

    OK - a really determined and advanced person could use a packet sniffer and watch your traffic and try to pick out some personally identifiable information, like an email address, or your name in a text doc. etc...  But that guy wouldn't have an unsecured connection, would he?

    If someone has an unsecure network, it is doubtful they know how to detect someone using it.
