  1. The chances are slim... belive me the cruiselines take every precaution against this.

Also, it is VERY important to wash your hand thoroughly & frequently & use a good hand sanitizer in between. To avoid getting norovirus, also use Zicam nasal spray when going in closed in public areas, such as restaurant or to see a show!

  2. its hard to say

    drink bottled water

and always wash your hands to keep germs away

  3. The virus that is commonly known on cruise ships is called the Norovirus.  This is spread by the example below.  Just remember to wash your hands or use hand sanatizer.

A guest uses the bathroom and does not wash their hands.  They then leave to go to dinner.  On the way he pushed the elevator button to call it, the floor button on the inside and then touches the door handle on the dining room to enter.

You come from your room after washing your hands and go to dinner.  You touch that same call button, floor button and door handle on the way.  You now have the germ that cause the virus.  You sit to eat.

Remember to wash your hands before entering the dining room.  Use the hand sanatizer that most lines provide.

I remember on my last cruise a man saying I just washed my hands in the room.  Granted the dining room doors were open so no need to touch the door, but he grabbed the railing on the stairs on his way down.  No telling what was on there.

As for food poisoning, which is a bit different, this is rare.  I would not worry to much over it.

  4. Food poisoning isn't the current concern. The norovirus is passed through direct contact. Frequent handwashing will help you avoid it. It's always a concern in confined areas but, to put things in perspective, the current outbreak that kept the Freedom of the Seas in port for 2 days for a scrub down affected only 9% of all passengers and crew.

  5. About the same at you may get it eating any place else. They are just as concerned about saftey as anyone else.

  6. I think the chances of getting food poisoning are very slim. I would guess you would have a better chance getting it in your local restaurant. Like a lot of people have stated, washing your hands is very important.  The ship we took had hand sanitizers at the front of the buffets and even had a worker standing there having people use it. They don't want people getting sick on their ship. Bad for the ships reputation.
