I got a cerclage put in when I was 19 weeks pregnant because my cervix was measuring 2.5 . They were measuring it because I lost a baby at 19 weeks a few months prior because of incompetent cervix. I'm currently 25 Weeks now. I am due to have the cerclage removed at 36 weeks. What are the chances of the stitches from the cerclage coming out before 36 weeks? Does it ever just randomly come out? What can I do to prevent it & God forbid it starts coming out, how will I know it is?

  1. I just had my cerclage removed today at 34 weeks. I was on the same boat as you. Everyday i thought its gonna come out or something is gonna happen. The best advice i can give you is dont pick up anything heavy and dont bend a lot.

Try to rest as much as you can. I was on bedrest for the past 4 months and that is what kept my stich in place. My doctor said that the best thing is to be on bed rest depending on your condition. I have a incompentent cervix and it was getting really short 4 months ago and that is why i went on bed rest.

I got my cerclage at 12 weeks. I am soo happy that i made it this far considering i went to preterm labor at 20 weeks. So just relax and try to rest as much as you can. DONT lift anything heavy and bend a lot.

I wish you the best. Just rem that that it is ALL worth it for that little bundle of joy that is coming your way. Good luck with everything.

  2. the stitch will not just randomly come out so don't worry.

At 36 weeks when the doctors take it out, it is quite a big procedure and you will need to have a spinal to numb you for when they take out the stitch.
