Question:

What are the chances of receiving a Caltech scholarship?

I am going to be a sophmore next year, and am wondering how hard undergraduate scholarships are to get at Caltech.

I saw a figure somewhere that approximately ten were given out to the entire class, is this true? I know that I am smart enough to go to Caltech, but how good do you have to be to get a scholarship, full or partial.

I have a 4.0, will score a 35 on the ACT, graduate in the top 3 of my class, and am very good in Math and Science, taking as many AP courses as possible.

What kind of SAT scores can earn a Caltech scholarship? If you play sports, can you also get a partial scholarship for that?

Thanks for the help.

  1. cal tech doesn't give sports scholarships, but you have a shot at an academic based one. The problem with cal tech is you first have to get in. Your credentials are very impressive, but the competition to that school is insane. I would say apply for the financial aid and the scholarship and see how it goes. it is very hard to say what will happen because the school is so competative that all the applicant have impressive resumes and the scholarships most likely go to students who have impressive life experiences or some far fetched financial handicap (like they're an orphan from China, or their parents died last year ect). I would try to plan for other financial aid and not get your hopes up for the scholarship. That way, if you get it, it'll be a nice surprise but if you don't you can still attend one of the best science schools in the world! good luck
