  1. I went to CR with a guy obsessed with snakes.  He sooo wanted to see a couple of indiginous reptiles while we were there.  However as much as we tromped through the wilderness, we never saw a single one.  Snakes don't like people encounters, so you should be just fine :)

  2. The chances of you seeing a snake in the city are very remote, unless you go to a serpentarium.

  3. You are not likely to see a snake in the city unless you go to a zoo :-D

Snakes do shy away from people and even in the countryside, if you are noisy on a trail, chances are they will slither away before you can see them.

In general is harder to see snakes in the highlands than in the lower, warmer coastal areas, but even in the coasts you are not likely to see a snake in populated areas such as cities or small towns (or a beach resort, for that matter).

I have a friend who has snakefobia, and the only place where she is careful about the snakes is when she goes to visit some family in rural San Carlos.  Otherwise she does not worry about them....neither would I.

  4. Small.  I lived there a year and only saw 1.  I spent a lot of time outside, climbing trees, etc.

  5. Lived in Costa Rica for 7 months lived in a city and worked in a very remote southern location.  I saw one little snake in our garden in the city and only a few in the Campo.  If you are going for a short visit chances are very little that you will see a snake, but could happen.

  6. When the Pope stops being catholic you will see a snake in a city here in Costa Rica.
