What are the chances of someone using a condom and still getting a STD?

I want to be more educated on s*x and the risks of having s*x because no one has ever taught me about safe s*x and the risks [I am 16]. Most of it seems like common sense. I have found most of what I need to know on line but I am just curious if using a condom to protect yourself from a STD is the same as using a condom to prevent getting pregnant. Is there still an equal chance that you can get a STD? What are the chances of someone using a condom and still getting a STD? Thanks!

  1. There is always a possibility of getting an STD with a condom, but chances are very small.

  2. Condoms will reduce your risk but as with pregnancy it is not a guarenteed prevention. There may still be every chance of getting an STD such as herpes.

  3. About 97% Trust me on this!

  4. There is ALWAYS the chance.  Herpes and HPV are from skin to skin contact and a condom doesn't cover every area of a man or woman.  Condoms REDUCE the risk.  These std's can also be spread through oral s*x.

The best prevention of course is abstinence...next to each partner getting tested and a clear STD history the chance for std's will always be there.

  5. you can look at this website, it has alot of info on different STD's and HIV

  6. 1%

it will be as effective as preventing STD as its preventing pregnancy.

just use them carefully and follow the lovely diagrams on the leaflet lol

  7. If you use a condom correctly 100% of the time pretty much the only thing your at risk for is herpes..Trust me on this, I don't know what some of these other people are talking about but that's why they make condoms for protection

  8. There is always a risk of infection during intercourse, less though with a condom...

  9. It is ALWAYS a good idea to protect yourself, and I commend you on wanting to be more knowledgeable and learn more about this.  Condoms will REDUCE your risk of things like pregnancy and SOME STD's, but it will NOT eliminate it.  As you should know, not even pregnancy is 100% covered by condoms.  You are even still at risk for contracting things like HPV (human papaloma virus) which can be to blame for some types of cervical cancer and genital warts, herpes, gonorrhea and of course the big one HIV.  Again, I want to tell you how much I commend you for wanting to learn, but at the same time I must stress:  Please, you are only 16.  Take this information and learn from it.....and use it only when you're ready.
