What are the chances that McCain will die before he finishes 2 terms in office? %chance President Sara Palin?

Sorry to be so blunt, and I hope McCain lives a long life.

But as a voter I need to know what are Sara Palin's chances of being President.

What percentage of 72 year old males live to be 80? Does anyone have a refference? I am looking for the formulas or tables life insurance companies use, especially if they factor in medical history.McCain himself has said that his age makes his VP choice more important.

What are the average stats?

  1. McCain may not seek a second term if elected.

  2. If he doesn't live a l long life -- here's what you need to know:

She was elected Alaska 's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.

    1. Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.

    2. She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.

    3. Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.

    4. She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.

    5. She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.

6.How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.

We also asked Alaska residents what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here's a sample:

She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She's a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK

As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK

Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

She's vehemently anti-choice and doesn't care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain's part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he'll get our vote by putting "A Woman" in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

  3. McCain has already said that he runs for just 4 years and not 8!

Obama said that he runs for .... 10 years (sic)!

McCain will win the election and in 2012 it's gonna be Sarah Palin against Hillary Clinton.

  4. Some of the people on CNN and MSNBC seem to believe that he'll be dead within a couple of weeks based on their reactions to Palin.

  5. I found an article that seems to be exactly what you're looking for. In short, there is a 20% chance that he will die in office, and a much higher chance that something will occur to disable him as president, in which case, Palin would take charge.

"The 25th Amendment provides for the vice president to assume the duties of the president if he has a disability which makes him 'unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.'"

So, yes, as a voter, you definitely should take a close look at Palin and her policies.

The whole article is pretty interesting and provides several more facts and statistics...

The second article differs slightly in their calculations, though it does not take smoking into consideration. (It says there is a 30% chance of him dying before 2 terms and a 14% chance of dying before the first term.)

Either way, both articles definitely stress the importance of realizing that while voting for McCain, you are also voting or Palin.

Lastly, another Yahoo Answers user decided to do some calculating...I think they came up with a little over 30% chance of dying in office.

  6. McCain has recurring cancer. He is forgetful. He has bad temper which often affects his judgment. He said his VP pick will be someone who will be able to assume the duties of the office of COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF on an instant if need be, but look whom he chooses.

  7. I don't  know what the chances are but look how Bush has aged over the past 8 years Mccain is 72 anyone that thinks being president will not impact on his health is kidding themselves and I don't want that nutcase Palin running the country she is WAY to conservative. she is a climate change skeptic

  8. To actually ANSWER your question of average stats, there were 133, 921 deaths of white males from age 70-74.  So using that as a baseline, his chances increase to 149,924 for age 75-79, or an increased chance of 11.9% If he runs to his second term, crossing into age 80, his chances of  death increase 219% from the baseline. It's tough to tell, he has endured great physical torture at the hands of the Vietnamese captors that "took care" of him in the Vietnam war.

But, as an Alaskan myself, I KNOW Sarah Palin would do well as President.  Her lack of experience has a flipside, a fresh approach to the way things are always done!  It also means that she is untarnished by the corruption that has a stronghold in Washington.  She would be an amazing President, I'm ashamed to say that she seems to be stepping up for what is right, when no men have stood up to fight corruption the way she has.  WHY NOT????

This country would be SO fortunate to have her as our President!

  9. i think mccain will serve 4 yrs, and then palin will run for president in 2012. mccain's got a lot of life more to go. reagan was 73 when he ran for re election and he served his full term and he was still alive for a number of years. no problems.

    Mccain/Palin 2008

  10. Good question!    Really ... are we ready to vote fro Palin as a president?

  11. What are the chances of Obama getting the first term and following in the footsteps of Hugo Chavez?

  12. I am surprised he made it through the primary.  I don't wish death on anyone, but on average man don't live long.

  13. John McCain's health is very good and he has a tremendous amount of energy.  His experience would be beneficial.  It would be quite a first time thing for her to be president though, wouldn't it?  I mean first time woman president.
