I am 24 years of age and recently read some info I found online about biracial children. It shocked me when I found out that they have a 1 in 20 chance of being adopted because the are more than one race. I want to take action but I need more info. Can someone out there please help. Any advice would be appreciated.

  1. The age limit for adopting through foster care is pretty low, I think.  I was PIIIIIIIIISSED when I found out that stat, too.  That's one of the reasons we began looking into foster/adoption.  Just call your local DHS and they'll steer you in the right direction.  (FYI: You may not actually end up with a biracial child.  My husband and I are pretty much open to any child, and we have gotten bulletins on mostly caucasian kiddo's...but then, it's a mostly caucasian state.  You just never know which kids will need a family.)  Best of luck to you!

  2. I'm 24 my hubby is 22 and we are in the process of adopting through foster care, most states age minimum is 18. Good luck!!

  3. go fur it.

  4. I believe they want you to be 25 in order to adopt in the U.S. And there are restrictions about age differences. I think you have to be at least 15-20 years older than the child you plan on adopting.

  5. If someone in their 20’s is financial stable and can provide a good home for a child(ren) then they should be able to adopt, as long as they pass their home study. It wouldn’t be just bi-racial children, it would be mixed children in general , you have some who are Tri-racial, Quad-racial or even more.

Do you have a link to this article I would be interested in reading it.

If you plan to adopt I would also tell your social worker or the agency you specifically want a mixed raced child.  They should be happy since this kids are deemed hard to place.

  6. I'm 26 and my husband and I are planning on adopting an older child out of foster care.  Check into the social services department in your county and they can help you.
