My son is 15, a sophmore, playing his 6th year of football. He's not the best guy on the team, but he has the biggest heart and plays and practices and works out till he drops. He's the first guy there when the coach needs someone to go up against the bigger senior players. He is also a gifted student in high school, is in the 97th percentile nationwide for 9th grade students on the Terra Nova test, scored a 1550 in 7th grade on his SATs, is a Science Olympiad double-gold medal winner and will be an Eagle Scout by the time he graduates from high school.

He wants to play football for Penn State. His older brother is an alumni. We live in PA... he attends a small country school. What are his chances based on the info above.

Right now he's 5'10" and 150 lbs....lean and all muscle. Plays FB and MLB.

Thanks!

  1. make sure he is entirely devoted to football,he can still run in track, wrestlings good and basketball is okaayyy, but i think its best to just stay in just one other sport, like the ones ive mentioned, so he can devote his time to weighttraing and working on his technique and schoolwork. he has the height, 5f 10in is about the minimum for LBs in the D-1 colleges, and since he is only 15, he still has a tad bit more growing to do. My biggest concern is weight. you can go to www.rivals.com and see that all the fullbacks and linebackers are all about 210+ lb. so just watch that. but if he doesnt get heavy enough, he could always play SS or FS.And if hes not good enough he could go to a juco.

good luck hope he makes it.

  2. Wow a cowboys fan in PA, but anyways.

He should go to a bigger school so he has a better chance of being found.

  3. Honestly, good luck.  In order to play for a Division 1 school as well known for having a great football program like Penn State, you have to be the BEST.  Playing with heart is good, but probably not good enough to get you into Penn State. Tell him to hit the gym, A LOT!
