Ok today some drunk r****d with a suspended licensed just rear ended my 2000 Suburban. He has no insurance yet we are fully covered. It will need the back two rear doors replaced and the back driver side panel fixed and who knows whats wrong underneath but could be nothing. We were trying to sell it before this happened. Will insurance just fix this and give it a salvaged title and then I am screwed because it won't be worth a darn or will they consider this totalled? We will find out for sure on Tues. I am just a little curious about the situation.

  1. did you call the police and your insurance broker? if your covered, your insurance should fix your car and then go after the person that hit you, after all when he hit you in the rear, its automatically his fault, at least thats the way here in pa.

  2. You will not get a salvage title unless the car is a total loss. It dose not sound like it will be totaled  unless it has allot of miles on it but I can't tell.  A car is usually considered a total loss if the damage to the vehicle exceeds 40 to 50% of its value.  Check with your insurance company on this because it can very.  Your insurance will cover it if it is not a total loss, if it is totaled then they usually will buy it from you and you would have to buy it back from them. Again check with your insurance company to verify their procedures. Beware that any one who looks at your car in the future and dose a carfax on the vin * vheicle identification number*  will be able to tell that has been involved in an accident so be honest about it.  Good luck and I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. Peace and love to you.

  3. Insurance will cover it. Depending on the year of the car will depend on if it is a total loss. If you only need the doors replaced they should just replace them and give you the vehicle back

  4. They will only give "Salvaged title" if it cost almost the price of the car. So What I did was I took the money and sold the car without repair. That way a salvage car is sold without difficulties.

I had a Civic that cost $4k. Repair estimate $3.8K. Insurance paid me $3.8K for repair and I sold the salvage with damage for $800.

  5. Well depending on the cost of repairs and the miles on it, it might not even be worth fixing. Depending on the type of insurance you have, it might not even cover the damages! If it does and you do get it fixed for free, then yes there will be a salvage title on it, but that doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to sell it if it's fixed up to the way it was...good luck!

  6. the insurance company won't fix the car & give it a salvage title.  these are the possible scenarios:

    1. if they consider it a total loss then they will give you the value of the car.

    2. if they don't consider it a total loss then they will pay the the costs to fix it.

    3. if they consider it a total loss & you want to buy it at a discount then that's when they will give the car a salvage title.  salvage title means that it was considered a total loss.

  7. Unfortunately you will have to wait for the adjuster to look at the car.  He is the only on who will make the decision on what to do with it. I have seen cars totaled that could have been easily rebuilt and i have seen cars rebuilt which should have been totaled.

  8. Dang I feel like writing a short answer :(

Anyway, I don't have much experience about this but this sounds like totalled. There is no way you can sell it now. It would be much cheaper just to get a new car in my opinion. Just sue the guy or whatever you have to do and see what happens. This is a hard question but the answer is simple it's over for your car. I'm sorry.

  9. I'd sue the drunken bum for anything he DOES have like his house or anything else.

Here's what you need to do- it worked for me.

First of all the insurance company is going to try to get you to settle for what THEY say it's worth (if they decide to total it.)

I said this: "Look- if I ran down the fence in front of your house are you going to say,'Gee, I spent $200. for that fence 15 years ago so pay me that and we're even' or are you going to say, 'Looks like you're gonna have to replace my fence?"

Once you put it that way they'll most likely agree to pay you what it would cost to replace the truck with one in comparable condition.

Now- when they determine the value they'll low ball you based on some facts and figures that they say represents what a truck like that sells for in your area. Don't fall for it.

Have a look at KBB.com and get the retail value that they list. Also have a look at some used car lots in your area (The most expensive ones you can find) and get prices and pictures. Get the most expensive numbers you can come up with and use them as ammunition. If you can justify your numbers with evidence I seriously doubt that your insurance company will be able to justify paying you less.

My '88 suburban burned to the ground in 2002. I mean flames 50 feet high, closed interstate 15 in both directions. That 40 gallon gas tank made for a HUGE fire when it went. All I could do was watch it burn.

My insurance company offered me $2500. I gave them all the info I just mentioned as well as the types of upgrades I'd done (receipts in hand). In the end I got $7000.

My family has had a couple incidences over the years concerning totalled autos. This method has worked every time. We never came out ahead but we've at least come close to even.

Now- you'd better get checked out by a doc or a good chiropractor before you sign anything saying you're not injured. Better safe than sorry.

    Good Luck!
