What are the characteristics of a poorly made HDMI cable for HD viewing?

  1. No picture or sound.  Most cables will be the same.  Just make sure it's HDMI certified and you are fine.


  2. No picture for one...

    Loose HDMI connections that cause the picture to intermittantly disappear....

    Having to jiggle the connectors to make them work...or inserting toothpicks in the HDMI slot to secure the connections

    Now, if you want to find a broken wire in any cable, all you do is fold the wire over one of your fingers and starting at one end of the wire you just drag the entire wire thru that 90 degree bend you just created until the picture goes nuts....now you know where the cracked wire is.

    Yes you feed video signal thru the wire while you are testing it...and it helps to have a mirror or somebody watching it while you run that test...
