rice cultivation in india is unique as its a staple for more than half a billion indians.  it has both lowland type of growing further south.  and those in the highlands have terraced farming.  the variety differs with region and those for export are grown with special care as indian basmati  rice is much treasured in uk, usa, singapore, france.  

for local consumption, its kinda mass-produced.  the profit margin for the farmer is little as middle men dictate the price.  this is disgusting as the farmer shld get a higher profit for all the hard work.
