A masterbatch used in the plastics industry consists of a pigment to give the required colour, incorporated in a concentrated form in the same plastic material that the final product will be pruduced from. Alternatively the pigment can be dispersed in a compatible wax. The masterbatch is added into the uncoloured bulk plastic , fed to the moulding machine, where it completly incorportaes with the bulk plastic during melting to give the required colour. As such it does not have a definite chemical composition.
