  2. For the anterior two-thirds of the tongue, general sensations and taste sensations are carried via different nerves. Taste sensation is carried to the facial nerve via the chorda tympani.

    The posterior one-third of the tounge has a more simple innervation, as both taste and general sensations are carried by the glossopharyngeal nerve.
