  1. Check with local vets or animal shelters, they should be able to help you.

It may be cheaper through an animal shelter.

    You have my condolensces.

  2. Try the Chesapeake Pet Crematory- http://www.chesapeakepetcrematory.com/

The have locations in Beltsville, Silver Spring and Towson. I'm guessing Beltsville might be the closest to you.

I believe when my friend had it done it was around $150-$200. But you also have to factor in an urn and a pick up fee.

I wish you luck - and my condolences if you're grieving.

  3. Where I live, a group of veterinarians own the pet crematorium, and the process is quite supervised to ensure no mix-ups.  There's usually a weekly pick-up and drop-off, so at most you would wait just under two weeks.

Warning:  The remains are mostly bone fragments and powder.  But a lot of bone fragments.  I wasn't prepared for that.  It kind of bothered me at first -- a little unsettling, as I was expecting a perfectly powder-like ash.
