  1. Were you the donor or recipient?

If you were the donor, first let me commend you on being such a wonderful, altruistic person.  To answer your question, kidney donation is extremely safe -- all the tests you went through in the past year allowed the doctors to determine that you are a very healthy individual, and would sail through the surgery without problem.

Some donors run into small complications after the surgery, like poor wound healing, or pain at the surgical site, but since you are already 4-and-a-half months out, I assume you didn't develop any of those -- and you are not likely to from this point on.

In the long run, some donors develop high blood pressure many years after donation.  But even people who don't donate a kidney have a 1 in 4 chance of developing high blood pressure sometime in their lifetime, so this is not necessarily a complication of donation.

If you are a recipient, there are many more complications that can happen, in part because of the medications you have to take to prevent rejection.  But at 4-and-a-half months, you should be still seeing your transplant doctors every few weeks, so you can ask them about complications on your next visit.

    Hope this helps!
