  1. Depends what you mean by a "rubber" - the term can mean several things.

"Rubber" can mean a pencil eraser. These are usually made of synthetic rubber, often mixed with pulverized pumice (a volcanic rock) to make it abrasive. However there are other types, such as gum or putty erasers, or soft vinyl, which use different materials and are designed for different purposes.

"Rubber" can also mean a condom. These are usually made from latex. Latex is found naturally in the sap of some trees and plants, but for commercial volumes latex is synthesized in industrial processes that join monomers (simple molecules) into the polymers (long chains of repeating monomers) that make up rubber. Because some people are allergic to latex, condoms made from polyeurtyhane (a synthetic rubber) are also available.

"Rubber" is also the term for all elastic polymers (elastomers) - that is, polymers that can be stretched and relaxed and still keep their shape. This covers a wide range of natural and synthetic rubber materials.
