  1. Just as in any sport you need strength and endurance. This is not a magic game where you require extra special stuff.

  2. Try looking at this link: www.usarugby.org, once on look at the left side menu under "Fit to Play"  everything you need is there.  Good luck and happy scrums.

  3. Depends on your position.  It's generally best to go for all-around fitness/athelticism from head to toe...like a freestyle wrestler.  Rugby combines strength, stamina, and power. EVERY player will need a solid base of stamina regardless of size.  Plus, in loose (open field) play nowadays, the distinction between positions can be blurry.

f you are a smaller guy (wing, fullback), your speed, quickness, and a burst of power will be your greatest asset.  If you are a bigger guy (prop, second row) it always helps to be fast, but your strength and power is key.

Once you go to a few practices and learn the positions, you'll have a better idea as to where you fit in.  There is a place for everybody who is hungry to play.

  4. You would need some fitness depending on which position u play..i dnt knw wht build u are but the heavier types tend to do less running..and also strength + power..even as a speed player u wud need some size as rugby players are huge these days..

    good luck.

  5. Stay  off the beer and leave the women alone! Women weaken legs. Beer weakens the wallet!

  6. Fitness in rugby is key: it keeps you active on the pitch and safe from injury.

A strong core is important. You'll be taking hits there constantly. Aside from that a set of powerful legs are also key. If you're a forward you'll be needing to bowl over mauls and get low in the scrums. If a backline player, strong legs will help you break away from larger tacklers.

Above anything else, mental toughness. That is something essential, regardless of your physical readiness or stature.

Enjoy rugby my man... fantastic sport!
