  1. Basic Superhetrodyne Receiver

    Radio Frequency Amplifier  (RF)

    Local Oscillator  (LO)

    Mixer

    Intermediate Frequency Amplifier  (IF)

    Detector

    Audio Frequency Amplifier  (AF)

    Speaker

    This is a basic receiver setup.  There are more stages with different names (more IFs, more oscillators, discriminator, synthesizer, VCO, etc.) depending upon whether the radio, AM or FM.
