I'm from the Philippines and with the ongoing worldwide oil crisis, my country's government is taking measures to ensure that we do not feel the full blast of this crisis.

One of the measures being taken is re-opening a nuclear power plant somewhere in the country and getting the better half of our country's supply of energy from that power plant.

Though some maintain that this is a good idea, others are opposed to it because of the dire consequences it could have on the country and the environment.

What exactly are the pros and cons of getting energy from a nuclear power plant? Do you agree with this measure?

  1. the pros is that you get cheap energy, no air pollution, and ends dependency on oil

the cons is that it is difficult to store waste, an unsafe measure could recreate Chernobyl, and and creating the uranium to power the plant is expensive

but i do agree in nuclear plants, but they need to be staffed by the top maintenance people to prevent accidents

  2. There hasn't been a nuclear disaster in the U.S. since 1979.

It's clean, it's safe, and it gives the people who fried their brains too much a cause to protest.

    Ding, fries are done.

  3. The costs related with nuclear power are simply staggering.  Most of the cost ends up coming in the form of cleanup or decomissioning costs.
