  1. Okay, the country is really not too strict when it comes to travelers and foreigners who are spending money in the country thus driving the economy. If you are however in the country after your ninety days and someone asks to see your passport, your in for a very unpleasing situation. They will first take you to the police station and then to the nearest immigration authorities. this could mean being put in a big room full of illegal immigrants from Nicaragua and other places and waiting to be given a fair hearing by an officer. I know one woman who was caught but she has a business down here and is now in the process of applying for residency and is allowed to stay in the country while this process commences. She was taken to San Jose before they decided to release her and left her with no help to get back to her home which was in Samara on the Nicoya Peninsula. You however would just be illegal and possibly deported. Don't take the chance, go to Nicaragua for 3 days to Granada or playa del sur and make a vacation of it, Or suffer uncomfortably the Costa Rica Immigration.
