I have not had a ticket of any kind in at least 10 years and would like to keep my driving record as clean as possible

  1. I used to live in Illinois, so I know there's no point system there. Pretty much you'll have to probably go to court and plead your case. If this is your first offence, they may be a little more generous to you. You will probably have to pay a fine, it may be semi hefty. I think it would've been less if you went 11 over rather than 12. I don't think you will have the option to go to the class. Your insurance company may be contacted regarding this so your rates may go up, but then again, it was your first offense. In Illinois it's 3 strikes and your out, so 3 tickets and your license will be taken away. I wouldn't worry too much about the one ticket.

  2. I would caution you against taking these other's advice.  You do NOT need to just accept the ticket and fine.  There are many things you can do to reduce it, or to get out of it entirely.  If it's your first offense it will be even easier, but even if you have previous tickets on your record you can still get some leeway with this one.  Do not just give up - you have options.  Do your research.

  3. You will pay the fine and get points on your license. Since it was not enough MPH over the limit to make it "reckless operation", the fine amount should be on the ticket. Trying to prove you were not speeding would involve going to court. If you lose there, you get the fine, the points and court costs tacked on.
