What are the considerations for custom fitted golf clubs?

I bought a set of clones from a website. I had the shafts shortened by half an inch, but the lie angle was standard. I think the lie angle is too upright. Would it be correct for me to say, I can choke down on the club to make the adjustment for the too upright lie angle? i almost have too i think...otherwise my toe will be up at address and probably at impact...or i would have to keep my arms further away from my body to have the sole of the club evenly on the ground at address and (maybe impact?)

I wasted a lot of time trying to adjust myself against my clubs when I would've been much better off just getting new clubs better suited to my swing and body. If you can find a good fitter and get a nice set of custom clubs you'd be better off in the long run.

I would recommend that you get the lie angle done otherwise you are fitting yourself to the clubs as opposed to doing it the otherway around. Always try and get clubs that not only suit your game, but give you additional benefits as well (accuracy, check, etc.) If you start adjusting yourself to suit the clubs then you will have difficulties everytime you go to different clubs.... been there, done that
