  1. UN Agencies, etc. - Consumer Roles?

You might say we are potentially, all consumers, depending on how broadly you define this, and on your particular interests.

They all write masses of reports every year, generally for the consumption of member states, NGO's, and other agencies. Members of the public can always get hold of copies, and if you are sufficiantly interested, I suppose you would be a consumer.

Your previous respondent is right if you are thinking of customers in a commercial context. So they probably don't have consumers in this sence. However some entities are willing to pay for copies of some reports for their own use, so you might call them customers.

If you really want to know, you might look at the web sites for each of these agencies, see exactly what they do, and figure out for yourself about the issue of consumers.

There's one agency, UNDP, where I am definitely a consumer. I read their annual Human Development Reports avidly every year, and have started a small NGO devoted to the study of these, and of the UN Millennium Development Goals, "Oxford World Link."

  2. These organizations don't general operate as consumers. They are organizers and facilitators. Purchases are generally made through contractors that member states and their organizations and/or corporations can bid on.

  3. "consumer roles"?
