What are the contributing factors to the rising gas prices?

I know it deals with the price of oil, but that's all I know.

  1. Subprime mortgage = more lending risk

    more lending risk = more default on loans

    more default = less available credit

    less credit = less business

    less business = decrease in dollar value

    decrease in dollar = higher pricer in commodities

    more expensive commodities = higher oil prices

    higher oil prices = higher prices of all goods to consumer

    higher prices = credit crunch

    credit crunch = less available credit

    less credit = less business

    and so on and so on

    until someone cries FOUL
