Question:

What are the correct ways to do a tennis stroke?

I'm okay with my tennis strokes, but sometimes my roll in an attempt to do a topspin doesn't work, and i just lob the ball.

1) How can I improve my strokes(all of them)?

2) How can I aim for a certain spot? (usually the balls goes wherever when I hit it)

*Don't say practice, because I have tennis practice every day, and all we're doing is drills and my coach doesn't explain anything right.

  1. As far as aiming drills go, I like to place a couple balls into the service boxes and try to hit them. It helps me--ymmv. Good luck and have fun!!

  2. Make sure the turning of your body is creating racket speed on your forehand and on your backhand (if you use two hands).  Your racket is like a gate and you are the gate post.  Your first turn sideways is what takes your racket back.  As long as your racket is moving with your turn, your racket will be parallel with your shoulders the entire time, including when you turn again and meet the ball at contact point.  As long as you do this, the ball will always go where your belly button points when you make impact.  For added security with your contact, try to let your racket follow the ball down the court toward its intended destination (this is hitting through the ball).

Spin is created mostly by the hands (though some coaches vary on this issue).  Just remember your racket must be moving from low to high as it strikes the ball.  The reason you lob when you try this is that your racket is probably still moving upward after you strike the ball.  Try leveling out your swing once you make contact.  If your shots are still going high, you probably need to tilt your racket face downward slightly (also called closing the racket face).

  3. Go to videojug.com, and lookup tennis, etc.   I did, and got my strokes back in order.

I even took notes to make sure I got the concepts.  Videojug.com worked great for me.
