  1. 1. She wants to study at the University

    2. She wants to study at a University

    3. She wants to study at a University

  2. They are all correct sentences; the difference is with connotation. The first one implies that the listener knows which university you're talking about -- for instance, if there's just one university in your city. The second and third sentences both mean she'd like to go to any university anywhere. But he second suggests that she'd choose a university instead of some other kind of study, such as Web-based or on her own.

By the way, "university" should be capitalized only when it's part of an actual university's full name, like "University of Waterloo."

  3. Numbers one and two are correct depending on the situation.  Number 2 is the most correct. If you are talking to someone who knows what you are talking about when you say, the University, then number 1 is ok, but what 'the' university is varies by region.  Number 2 works where ever you are.  Number 3 sounds really cool when you say it with a British Accent, but is not correct.
