  1. Sounds like you're wiring a UK appliance.

    Brown = live (or hot)

    Blue = neutral

    Green = earth (or ground)

    If you're comparing it to US codes,

    blue (UK) goes with white (US)

    brown (UK) goes with black (US)

    green (UK) goes with green (US)

    However, in older UK appliances red was live (or hot), and black was neutral.

  2. black and brown =a phase   red and orange =b phase     blue and yellow =c phase but that's just a branch circuit standard.if your working on a fan or a appliance .look  at the schematic

  3. What kind of device are you referring to?

  4. unfortunately it may not be that simple or it could be as simple as someone ran out of the right wire and substituted.  If it is a 120 circuit and you are very sure of it then you would most likely have a green for ground,  brown for hot and blue for neutral.  But the best way to know for sure is with a tester (volt ohm meter) set to as voltage and test from one wire to next until you find which is hot.  The neutral and ground will be a little more difficult as you will probably have to go to where the wires originated and find out how they hooked them up.  If it is 220 then you have brown is hot blue is hot and green is ground for appliances like stoves.  If this is in a commercial building and you have 3 phase then all the leads are hot.  Be careful and when in doubt call a electrician.

  5. you need a tester.dont guess you could ruin the device your connecting.
