What are the criteria needed to pass the 9th grade?

Just a random question. My friends son will be starting 9th grade in a few days, but he wants to know the criteria needed to pass the 9th grade.

Depending on your state and school district requirements, you will need to pass all classes with a minimum of a 'D' average, including midterms and final exams.  Students need to master the grade level curriculum for each subject to prove they are knowledgeable at that grade level.  All state's have their curriculum on their department if education website, so it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with 9th grade standards.
