What are the cultural and enviornmental impacts of foreign development in the amazon?

Oil companies mostly and the pollution they leave behind. Also how this effects the people and tribes who live around these areas.

I was under the impression that the Amazon is controlled by the South American countries that include it.  So what foreign development do you mean?  Do you mean multinationals that do business in those countries?  If so then which ones?
