  1. Food security - the Philippines import rice, its staple food. World food supply, especially rice, is tightening, hence there is a tremendous increase in prices recently

Oil Dependence - the country imports oil, and similarly, world oil supply is tightening and conflicts and speculations contribute to the increase of world price.

Corruption - the Philippines is now tagged the most corrupt in Asia, worse than Indonesia (the most corrupt during the last decade). The people mostly suffer because they pay taxes for government projects which are overpriced, often delayed, and sometimes, halted.

Unruly politics - Confidence with the Arroyo administration has faded.

Wekening democracy - the Philippine media has suffered most. Dozens of newsmen have been attacked and killed in the past few years. A genuine democracy paves way to the greatest potential of the country

Declining US economy - just like many other Asian nations, the Philippines is economically dependent to the US. When the NYSE sharply loses, Asian stocks also fall. Mere specualations in the US affect trading in the Philippines
