My Mother is in a similar situation and I have done exactly as described in that response. We found programs that are federally funded, state funded and county funded. My Mom worked for 25+ years but, her earning were so low, the amount of her Social Security check is very small.

In addition, my Mom qualified for Meals-on-Wheels for the cost of $2 per day. This has been a real blessing for me. I do not live close enough to her to make sure her daily nutritional needs are meet because she does live in a government-assisted apartment for senior citizens. She loves her apartment and her neighbors.

  2. It depends on what state you live in.  My mother has no retirement therefore she is only able to draw her Social Security Checks which is less than $600 per month.  So she has an apartment that is Government Subsidized and pays about 12% of her check for rent.  I've been able to get her food stamps to help with groceries and a medical card even though she does have medical insurance.  So it depends on how much each individual recieves each month on what programs they are able to eligible for.  Medicare also has a prescription program, Medicare Part D, that helps tremendously with medications.  We save well over $100 per month since Mom has been on that.  The best thing to do is contact your local Welfare Agency and they will tell you exactly what is available.  Also check with local Aging Departments.  They will come in and help out with many many different things as well.  Good luck.

And to you Dark L......if it weren't for these 'old coots' as you call them, your a s s wouldn't even be here.  Who do you think paid the taxes for you to go to school?  Who do you think fought for your freedom to say the stupid things you say?  Idiots like you should be banned from attempting to form an opinion!

  3. Assisted suicide.

Quit taking my money you old coot.

I'll bare-knuckle fight you for it.
