  1. Anyone can become an amatuer psychologist, but unless you are fully trained and know of the impact you can have on others and know the issues that can affect people, it can be very dangerous. You can actually do more harm than good. Think of the people who have tried to psych you out and counsel you and done more harm than good. It can happen to anyone.

  2. It leads people to believe they can "fix" themselves or others without training...sometimes causing problems to get worse.  It's the same thing you see after undergrad's have taken intro psych...think they can diagnose and recommend advise.  Many times different problems manifest themselves in the same behavior.  (psychologist/college prof)

  3. The danger lies in believing it. If it's a fun thing to joke about among friends is one thing but when used to answer serious problems it can be deadly. I lost a friend to treatable cancer when he believed some people that convinced him traditional medicine was strictly a way for doctors to make millions. They convinced him that alternative medicine with lifestyle and attitude changes along with the "power of positive thinking" were all he needed and were more effective. He passed away a year after he tried their advice.  Since then, I've been "cured?" of the same cancer -or at least it's in remission.
