  1. The Saxons invaded England around 450 AD and were the ruling class until 1066, when the Saxon King, Harold, was defeated in war by William of Normandy.

    The Saxons were very fond of jewellery, especially brooches, and there are many fine examples still around.

    The photo isn't good enough to see any detail, but round brooches of Saxon origin could have been made any time within the period.
