What are the definitions of an artist?

Question

I'm not an artist but do draw or paint at times, bought a dozen art books all were telling me no such a thing as definitions.

What's you view?

there aren't any definitions of an artist.  that's the whole point.  art is beyond definitions.  we are all artists in one form or another - it's just about finding our own individual medium.

An artist is someone who produces art.

But then that brings up the age old question that has been debated since Marcel Duchamp exhibited his urinal he called 'Fountain' in 1917 - What constitutes art?

Any one non comercial,  who does not sell out,  who's acts weather be painting or preforming or what ever are an act of expresion only and not a means for gain.

You don't have to be good to be an artist.

What is to say what is good or not,  ots all a matter of apinion.

An Artist is a Person who practises an Art, not necessarily successfully.

I am a Musician, not a very successful one, but a Musician nontheless.

nowadays if you can put some shapes together and make up a reason for what it represents you are then an artist     funny old world   aint it
