  1. Diabetes complications could be strokes, kidney failure, blindness, amputations, neuropathy, retinopathy, amongst others.  The best thing for you to do is start insulin pump therapy.  Insulin pump therapy is better than multiple daily injections and will prevent complications.  The 69 year old, unfortunately, was probably on multiple daily injections because of the gap in technology of his generation to ours. You should take advantage of the technology that is here now, and get on an insulin pump.  I would recommend Medtronic Minimed.

  2. First off, Im sorry! Diabetes can be little debilitating at times (basiclly means SUCKS!)... but MILLIONS of people live with it everyday!!

You MUST manage your diabetes very closely!!! Take your Blood sugar regulary, take your insulin as needed, and Diet and Excerise are the most important things you can do to control diabetes.

The complications are Horrific if you are not careful... but EASILY avoidable if you take care of yourself...

You can Lose your limbs- legs/toes (because your circulation is not as good), Your Kidneys can fail (again bad circulation), you can go into a diabetic coma if it gets too high... etc..

BUT i dont want to scare you! Like i said, millions of people live with diabetes, just be SMART! Get regular check ups.

Good Luck and take Care!!!  =)

  3. The 69 year old person was old.  They were gonna die.  And I like your use of the number 69, lol.  But I'm 13, I have Type 1.  And I'm living.  You'll be fine.

  4. If you follow your diet and take care of yourself you should live a fairly normal life.....but if you drink, smoke and eat a lot of junk food.  you will probably have problems. Also you should exercise.  walk a lot...

    High glucose

    High blood pressure

    kidney failure

    heart problems

    infections

  5.    You can lead a normal life, as long as you are compliant with keeping your blood sugars under control.  As for the person who was 69 and died-  was he compliant with diet, medications? Did he have other contributing health problems?    If you take care of yourself, you don't have to worry about dying that young.  However, non-compliance can result in diabetic ketoacidosis, kidney failure, heart disease, neuropathy, stroke, vascular disease, vision problems, etc....

  6. You don't know how long the 69 year old person had diabetes before he realized it.  You don't know how well he took care of himself.  You don't know what other problems he had. And although many people live longer than that, he wasn't young either.

If you follow your doctors advice and take insulin as you are instructed to do, eat properly, exercise, watch you weight and see your doctor regularly (and the eye doctor once a year too) there is no reason to think you won't live many, many more years.

To answer your question -- diabetes complications are loss of sight, loss of limbs, heart attack, and kidney failure. Be aware of that, but don't worry about it. Accidents happen and healthy people die, so just enjoy your life, because none of us come with a guarantee.
