between bagged and chopped hay sold in stores, compared to baled hay?

I know the tM hay chops are more expensive.. but it'sjust like bagged hay, so why would someone want to purchase bagged hay insteadofthe cheaper baled hay?

If money is not an issue.. would you buy the bagged hay?

Is it healthier? or what?

thanks!

  1. This is not in answer to your question, instead a note to Beachgirl...Beachgirl...if you buy a regular sized bale of hay and keep it in your parents garage for your rabbit, simply store that bale of hay on  a wooden pallet up off the floor or ground, thus preventing the mold and mildew on the hay and spoiling it.  It will save you money and last forever.

  2. the bagged hay tends to be shorter chopped and they ones sealed are often haylage rather than hay. If money was no issue then I might buy the bagged haylage (horse hage) for our cob because he has breathing issues and they do a mix of timothy grasses which help but it's very expensive - £6 for a bag that lasts less time than a £2.5bale of hay!

  3. The bagged hay is chopped up finer and is sometimes coated with something to make it dust-free.  These two attributes can make it a preferred way to feed hay to horses that have trouble chewing, or horses with respiratory problems that are made worse by dust.

  4. I bought bagged hay for my rabbit instead of baled only because my dwarf rabbit, who weighed a whopping 3 lbs didn't go through a lot of hay. A bale of hay could get wet, go moldy, attract rodents in my parents garage - where as a bag of hay stays neatly in a bag =) and get's used up in a fairly good amount of time. Was it more expensive? heck yes but it was worth it for my rabbit, Hobbes '89 - '95
