  1. DLP TVs have no motion blur during fast motion scenes (unlike LCDs), have no risk of "burn-in" (unlike plasma TVs), and are less expensive than the other two options.  The main drawback is that they are much deeper and can't be hung on the wall if you like that kind of thing. The most common problem with a DLP TV is for the bulb to burn out.  The good news is that it's not a terribly complicated repair; it's one that a DYI type can do, but, the bad news is the bulb is expensive (around $200)

Plasmas have a fantastic picture with deep blacks and great color saturation.  They perform best in rooms with very low lighting levels. They have some risk of burn in if you leave a static image on the screen for long periods of time. (but with tech improvements this isn't likely) They don't experience motion blur during fast action scenes, come in the largest screen sizes, and are less expensive than a similarly sized LCD screen. However, they do use more energy and can cost more to operate for this reason.

LCD screens offer a great picture too and perform better in rooms with a bit more light. They do experience some motion blur with fast action scenes. They don't come in the very largest screen sizes and cost a bit more than plasma screens of the same size. However, they are more energy efficient than plasma. LCDs don't experience burn in but they can develop dead pixels.

Which you should get is personal preference. DLP will save you money, plasma and LCD can save space if you hang them on the wall. If your room is dark plasma is the way to go, if it is brighter LCD may be a better choice. None of these screens should last fewer than 20 years.
