What are the differences between a rockfall, a rockslide, and a rock avalanche?

  1. I think it would be a difference in magnitude and density of the material falling and how it is coming down.

    A rockfall could be one rock or several and it or they would be falling rather than sliding.

    A rockslide would be similar to a rock avalanche, but probably of a lesser magnitude.  In both cases, they are sliding, but there are more rocks involved in an avalanche.
