What are the differences between intramural and junior varsity levels in college athletics?

if i wanted to play volleyball in college, could i only play intramural if i hadn't been on a volleyball team in hs? or could i try for jr. varsity? also, in intramural do you get to compete?

  1. Intramural is competition between groups at the same school. Jr. Varsity competition is with another schools Jr. Varsity and is meant to provide nurturing and experience in preparation for Varsity play.
