What are the differences between steam locomotive 844 and 8444? I'm pretty sure they're both real and they look similar, but I have reason to believe that some people are confusing the two. Besides the label, are they the same model or are there any real differences?

  1. About 35 years, the same locomotive renumbered.

  2. They are the same engine. In 1962 they added a 4 because they had some 800 series diesels. In 1989 all the 800 series diesels were gone so the 844 got it's original number back. The 844 has the honor of being the oldest engine that has been in service since it was put in service.I almost got a turn at the throttle last year when it came to our terminal. 3. my guess would be a 4.
