  1. yup...Singapore has already begun recycling waste water (that has been used in sewage treatment plants) to be made into drinking water. We call it Newater...if i am not wrong they use reverse osmosis....

  2. Saving water is gaining water for further use.

Use most ancient (about 2000 years old) irrigation system called "pithier irrigation"; un-parallel till today which gives most yield per liter or gallon of water. In other words, productivity of water is increased.

Contact easyirrigation@yahoo.com, they are developing modern version on pitcher irrigation.

  3. I saw a pretty cool design for a water-saving herb wheel.  it's a spiral that raises as it gets to the center and you have drought tolerant herbs like rosemary at the top and plants that need more and more water down to the bottom with a watercress pond at the bottom.

There are all kind of cool techniques like that.  Cheek out a permaculture book with lots of pictures and I'm sure you'll find some more cool ways to save water in you garden

  4. Well water recycling is an effective method that is used in Japan. For example: The water used in washing your hands in the sink or bathing in the tub is drained to a tank that feeds into the toilet which uses the same water to flush. It seems like a a minute savings, but considering that gallons are saved per flush + the millions of people using the method, it actually has a very huge impact on the environment + monetary savings.

Another interesting method I saw was someone using old glass bottles to create a magnification of heat in order to make hot water to save gas bills on a water heater (Not really water management, but sorta related).

  5. Recycling water, desalination

  6. One of the studies I have always had an interest in and been involved in was closed system aquaponics, the farming of fish with waste water going to produce production and that being a means of water quality management in the fish system. Along with this a system of natural waste water reclaiming, the building of a (greenhouse form of) ecosystem designed to mimic nature and producing clean water from sources considered non-potable, more and more a common way of managing water with minimized input and expense.

  7. Waste water treatment, like sewer water, to the point it can be reused in domestic water.  Orange, California has such a system in their public utilities.  This way you recycle the water instead of pumping the entirety of it down the drain.
