  1. Judging by comments in British newspaper and articles found on the BBC on line, both Americans and the British eat too much pre-processed junk food, although as one of the earlier posts suggested, perhaps the portions are smaller in the UK, but probably not much.

At any rate, in both countries, the working classes in particular need to watch their nutritional needs.   When I first traveled to the United Kingdom in 1974, I saw very few fast-food chains, but when I returned in 1981, London had as many fast food restaurants as any large American city.  What a pity!

One of the things that most British (and here I'm including Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) enjoy that many Americans don't is fresh, locally grown food.  Has joining the EU cut down on the amount of locally grown "farmer's market" type food that I remember from the early 1970s?

British food and traditional Anglo-American food are very similar.  Of course, you Brits drink warm beer, and I was once lectured in a London pub by the barkeeper and several customers because I asked for a soda with ice.

  2. This would be better answered if you posted it in the HEALTH threads. Doctors and nurses sometimes answer questions there.Bad eating habits have spread around the world and fast foods are something that the UK and the US seem to enjoy.Plus both UK and US  have favorite comfort foods to eat, from bangers and mash to macaroni and cheese and citizens who overeat and don't exercise are getting fat.

  3. We all eat too much and are grossly obese.

  4. Apparently we eat a lot of take out junk foods like McDonalds, KFC etc Also a lot of ready made meals...basically any food that have been processed. This is not true of every one however. I think the main difference is portion sizes. Americans tend to eat more in my point of view. Have you ever watched that film supersize me?

In Britain we are now taking extra steps to combat obesity from a young age. Sweets, Chocolates and fizzy pops are banned at schools and lunch meals are all fresh containing vegetables and fruit. Fruit is the only food allowed a break times.

Even at places like McDonalds and KFC you can now choose to have healthy options like fruit juice, fruit, salads and yoghurt. I'm not sure how this will compare to the US.

Also statistically the Brits favourite dish is spaghetti bolognese. Hope this is of some help.

  5. This is in Royalty because...

And what do you mean by England? Do you mean England, or the UK?

Huge differences. Too many to list.
