Hi! I'm moving to Bristol (England) soon and I'm currently applying for the Royal Navy. This will take time, as I have failed selection noce before, so in the meantime I'm joining the RN Reserves.

I am taking the RYA Day Skipper course at evening school one night a week but would also like to look in to racing under sail. What sailing disciplines with a competitive edge are beginner-friendly to those on a modest budget?

Thanks!

  1. Dinghy racing. Boats don't cost a fortune (price of a good bike for second-hand), the races are seriously intense, the boats quick to dump you in the water if you make a mistake, so you learn a lot very quickly. AND it's bloody good fun!

I'm too old now, but I loved it back in the day.
