  2. The City of Pittsburgh has an office called "Prothonotary" - I don't know anyone who knows what the h**l a Prothonotary does..

  3. That's like asking to name all the colors.  There are hundreds or thousands of government positions depending on how many levels and branches you are talking about.

    The speaker of the house is the leading member of the House of Representatives controlling party, which at the moment is Nancy Pelosi (D).

    Secretary of State is the highest ranking member of the President's Cabinet.  The current Secretary of State is Condoleezza Rice, and this position also serves as head of the State department, which handles foreign policy.

    As mentioned, there are a LOT of "government positions", so unless you can be more specific, there's not a lot I can do.  Just listing Government Positions can go anywhere from the President to a school crossing guard.

    edit:  A Prothonotary is the head of the court clerks!
